Making It Through

I've made a commitment,
and I'll see it through.
You are with me
from the words I do.

Only a year has gone by;
a baby on it's way.
But I'll be leaving soon
and going far away.

CHORUS
So stay strong
for me, oh
stay strong cause
I'll be home soon...

Don't worry,
I'll make it through
and come back
just for you.

I've fought long
and I've fought
hard; but nothing
will stop me--
I have a goal.

I'll take down
those bastards;
wipe 'em out clean.
To see my baby
and you
in a peaceful sleep.

CHORUS
So stay strong
for me, oh
stay strong cause
I'll be home soon...

Don't worry,
I'll make it through
and come back
just for you

Stay strong,
I'll make it through.
I'll come back home
for the both of you...

This is amazing! What inspired you to write this?

Catherine, this is just fabulous! It could be a song of the times, because without mentioning the word "war" you've been able to get across the idea of what so many young men and women are going through during this stupid, unnecessary war! Keep up the good writing. Fondly, Lynn

What inspired me to write this was that at the time, I was reading a book on war called Operation Homecoming. It was full of letters, personal narratives, poems, lyrics, etc. from the soldiers and some family members and reading it all touched me very deeply. While reading the book I actually came up with 4 pieces based on war: a poem, lyrics, a fiction, and a review on the book itself. It helped me a lot in my writing and gave me lots of ideas. You should read it too.
