Untitled as of yet

It was everywhere, in the streets and houses
Like smoke billowing and seeping
Rumors creeping under doors
Through cracks in the well worn wood
To innocent ears.
Poison dripped into their minds
Blackened their thoughts and their hearts
Against us.
As a wound festers and worsens
This neighborhood became infested with ridicule.
As a virus jumps from person to person
Judgment clouded all of the eyes
And pulled back the helping hands
Till we were all alone.
Angry looks were thrown in our direction
Or worse, eyes averted all together
In shame.
Not a soul, not a friend
Was left to smile
A desert of betrayal
Swept bare and lonely.
