Goodbye Sweet Kate

A maiden stands weeping along the shore;
Her vulnerable innocence broken.
A forbidden romance chilled to the core;
Her lover pawned her off as a token.
Abandoned her. She’s drowning in her grief.
A recluse mother. Her unborn child:
A tragic case. Nothing can give relief.
Whistling winds rippled through. Quite wild.
She is losing her mind. No place to hide.
Trauma eats her alive. There’s no escape.
Whatever hope was left for her has died.
Promise of death looms over the landscape:
Right on the edge. Dark depths below await.
Eyes are shut. Feet let go. Goodbye, sweet Kate.

Good catch, Maddie--I didn't notice it was a sonnet! Joanna, I did read this when you first posted it, but I didn't quite know what to say, so I didn't leave a comment here, even though I really enjoyed this poem's abstract imagery. Love the title :)
